Staff team will run in customer's memory

A TEAM from a local estate agent are running the Bristol Half Marathon in memory of a customer who was killed in a motorcycle crash on Jubilee weekend.

Staff at Connells in Filton decided to take on the challenge after the man in his 40s died following the accident on the A38 at Buckover, near Thornbury on June 4.

Now Branch Manager Alexandra Tan, Senior Negotiator James Crumpton, Mortgage Services Consultant Wayne Marlton, Administrator Kerrie-Ann Sanders and Area Director Ranjit Chohan are in training for the energy-sapping race taking place on Sunday, September 30.

Funds raised by the team will be donated to South Gloucestershire Council's Road Safety Team which runs motorcycle training days in the area.

"When the team heard the news that one of our customers had been tragically killed in a motorbike accident, we decided to try and raise as much money as possible to promote motorcycle safety and bike awareness in the local area," Alexandra said.

"Our sympathies go to his partner, who was also injured in the accident, and family at this difficult time.

"The team at Connells is committed to raising maximum funds from our half marathon which we hope will go some way to preventing similar incidents in the future.

"We are appealing to as many people as possible to get in touch and pledge a donation."

Alan Hale, Senior Road Safety Officer for South Gloucestershire Council added: "As a council we are working hard to reduce deaths and serious injuries from all collisions and in particular motorcycle collisions where the users are a very vulnerable group.

"It is reassuring that Connells at Filton are eager to play a part in our efforts by raising funds to enable us to provide additional training on our advanced motorcycling taster days for the riders of large capacity motorcycles.

"I am pleased to be working together with them."

Connells needs your help to raise as much money as possible. If you would like to help them raise money and awareness of motorcycle safety in the local area, please contact Alexandra Tan on 0117 931 4455 or email: filton@connells.co.uk.
