Anti-litter campaign in schools

LET's stamp out litter and take a pride in our surroundings in Olympic year.

That's the theme of the nationwide Bin It! campaign aimed at school children, which came to Bristol this week.

Bin it! uses a team of actors to educate young people about the problem of litter in their school, high street or local park.

The programme is developed by The Wrigley Company and is targeted at 11-13 year olds, particularly encouraging them to think about how they dispose of their chewing gum.

Organisers say it aims to highlight the impact of litter and anti-social behaviour and to encourage a feeling of civic pride in students around the country ahead of the this year's Olympic Games.

Since it began, the programme has visited over 200 schools in the UK, reaching more than 34,500 pupils.

Bin It! visited four schools, Ashton Park, Fairfield High, St Bede's Catholic College and Orchard School Bristol.

The programme is also linked with Keep Britain Tidy's Love Where You Live campaign.
